Michigan Shores Cooperative - 641 Michigan Avenue, Frankfort MI 49635

About Us

Michigan Shores Cooperative, located in Frankfort, Michigan, opened its doors in 1991 to residents 55 and better. Situated on a majestic ridge overlooking Lake Michigan, Michigan Shores is tucked within 19 beautiful wooded acres and offers spacious, secure and private one- and two-bedroom apartments that support an active lifestyle.

Owner-members purchase a share that entitles them to an apartment. Co-op shares appreciate 1 percent of the initial value, and selling a share is easy.  There are no appraisals, inspections, or real estate commissions.

As an owner-member, you’ll enjoy many benefits of living on the shores of Lake Michigan including:

  • A safe, secure, private apartment in a gorgeous setting

  • Affordable lake view

  • Maintenance-free lifestyle and turn-key convenience

  • Energized and engaged community with options to be fully engaged or selectively involved

  • Pet friendly (one pet per apartment)

  • Walking trails, beautiful gardens and wildlife just outside your door

  • Restaurants, shops, galleries, gardens, weekly farmers’ market, library, year-round festivals/events, beer tasting, fine dining, casual eateries, coffee shops, bakery, Art Center, and much more in the bustling resort community of Frankfort

  • Easy access to Lake Michigan, Crystal Lake, Frankfort, Elberta, Beulah,  Traverse City, Empire, Sutton’s Bay, and the Leelanau Peninsula

  • Quality healthcare and fitness center

  • Active lifestyle with opportunities throughout the region including beach walking, hiking and biking trails, Crystal Mountain Resort, world-class golf courses, and large and small bodies of water for kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, sailboating, power boating or watching the waves lap at the shore.

“People who live here don’t want the costly expenses of a single-family home and the real estate taxes that go along with it. They want a smaller home and built-in community. That’s one of the many advantages of a cooperative.”
